An NPC story.
With her pain potions in short supply, Maddie accepts a deadly run, pick up a package in Trox City and cross the desert plains to Port Troli, the only issues – an unwanted passenger and Tromoal breeding season.

Dawn Chapman has been creating sci fi and fantasy stories for thirty years. Until 2005 when her life and attention turned to scripts, and she started work on The Secret King, a 13 episode Sci Fi TV series, with great passion for this medium. In 2010, Dawn returned to her first love of prose. She’s been working with coach EJ Runyon who’s encouraged her away from fast paced script writing, to revel in the world of TSK and Letháo as an epic prose space journey. This year her experience of working with Producers/Directors from the US and AUS has expanded. From Drama, Sci Fi to Action, Dawn’s built a portfolio of writing, consulting and publishing.

Sherry Terry’s Review: 5-Stars

I love Desert Runner, and Dawn Chapman is a fantastic writer! I think the cover is great and portrays just what kind of book you’re going to get. A strong female main character takes center stage on the cover and in the story. The writing is very strong and well done, and Dawn has a way with a pen that sucks you into the story, wishing for more at the end.

Sci-fi isn’t normally something I pick up, but I’m glad I stumbled onto this book. The characters are well-done, the story moves at a nice pace that keeps you reading, and there is lots of futuristic stuff to plant you firmly into the story.

I love the main character, Maddie. She’s a self-sufficient badass who gets the job done despite her physical pain from past injuries. The story has just the right touches to really bring out the sci-fi elements, making me feel like I was in the future.

This book did it for me, and I highly recommend it to anyone who likes to read sci-fi with a Mad Max feel. Actually, I recommend this book to everyone. You will fall in love with this author and her writing.

RA Winter’s Review: 5-Stars

Desert Runner (Puatera Online Book 1) by Dawn Chapman was excellent.  I just loved it.  There was no part where I could pause to stop reading.  I finished it all in one night.

Intense writing, gripping plot and a very well written story. The tension here is the key, the stakes are high and we come to love the strong female lead.  She’s physically damaged but presses on in such a way that we’d all love to be her.  This reminded me of Mad Max meets an RPG and it really got my attention.

Oh, did I mention the dragons? The twist with them, in the end, was very unexpected but completely laid out with little breadcrumbs that all came together in one magic scene in the desert.

This was fantastic.  It kept me turning the page til the very end and now I can’t wait to read book 2.

If you love Mad Max, strong females, alternate realities or RPG, this is the book for you. Great writing, excellent story. Set aside a couple of hours and you won’t be disappointed.

  1. An action-packed quick read ideal for those attracted to what life might be like in a pre-programmed game world. Maddie is a strong female character, a rough diamond with a good heart, who is pushed to the limits because she needs to buy a healing potion. There’s a lot of twists and turns, and obstacles in the way with a cliffhanger at the end that will make it hard to resist book two. I’m glad this book was recommended to me as an insight into a genre outside my normal. I’d like to have a hog.

  2. I liked this story more than I thought I would. It was short but not sweet, and I loved that! It’s definitely worth picking up the next book in the series. She’s badass!
